Who needs a recipe for garlic bread? Well, probably no one, but there are a lot of options. Instead of providing a single recipe here are some guidelines.
Ingredients
- Bread
- Olive oil
- Butter
- Garlic Powder or minced garlic
- Chopped parsley, oregano or Italian seasoning
- Parmesan
There are no quantities here which allows you to make as much or as little as you like. For the butter or olive oil you want to use a little more than you would use if you were buttering toast. If the bread you are using is thick, use more so the butter and/or oil can soak into the bread.
Directions
Basic Recipe:
- Preheat oven to 400F
- Arrange slices of bread on a baking sheet. Generously butter the bread or coat one side with olive olive oil.
- Sprinkle generously with garlic powder. Experiment to see how much you like.
- Bake for about 12 minutes or until the bread is getting golden around the edges.
- Enjoy.
Now that we have the basic process down we can talk about some upgrades and riffs.
Option 1
I like to use a mix of olive oil and butter. Put 1/2 butter and 1/2 EVOO in a dish and add the garlic and microwave just long enough to melt the butter. Stir to combine and spoon the butter mixture on the bread. Bake.
For a little more work, you can melt the butter and EVOO in a small pan. Add freshly minced garlic and saute for a couple of minutes until the garlic is just starting to brown. Be careful not to burn the garlic. This is a little more work and more dishes to clean, but the fresh garlic is a bit win.
Option 2: Cheesy Garlic Bread
Before baking sprinkle the top of the bread with shredded Parmesan and/or mozzarella.
